Graduation Photos - preregistration information
From Bob Knight Photo:
New for Spring 2008, we are encouraging all graduates and their parents to provide us with their email and mailing address information prior to the ceremony. This new service will help guarantee that the graduate’s proofs are sent within 20 hours of the event to the exact desired email address. This simple process helps ensure that seniors and their parents receive all necessary information about photos before and after the event. This service is encouraged for all schools, regardless of our current means of receiving your graduates address information.
Registering your graduate with Bob Knight Photo provides them with the information that they need to deliver your graduation proofs to you in a timely manner. Giving them an accurate mailing address and email address will allow them to get your proofs to you on the first try. You may also provide them with email addresses of up to six friends and family members to allow them to celebrate in the accomplishment.

Please complete a short survey
A small group of counselors are doing a session at an upcoming workshop on how colleges market themselves to you. We are gathering information from students to use in the discussion. Please go to the link below and complete the survey - it should take you about 15 minutes. Thanks for your help.

FAFSA - the correct web site
There is only one correct site for the FAFSA - www.fafsa.ed.gov. The important thing to remember is that the web site URL ends in “gov” and not “com.” The other site is a commercial site that claims to do your FAFSA, but will charge you to do it.
The FFAA is the application for the Florida Bright Futures. This must be completed in order to get the Bright Futures. You do not, however, have to complete the FAFSA in order to get the Bright Futures. The FAFSA is to qualify your family to receive need-based financial aid.
5th Annual 100 Black Men of Jacksonville Infinite Scholar College Fair
Selective Service
All men are required to register with the Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday, even though there is no draft. Registration forms are available through Mr. Turba, on the Internet at www.sss.gov or at your local post office. THIS IS A LAW!! It is not an option.
Why didn’t you send my transcript?
Many students are checking their application status screens, or are getting emails from colleges that state their applications are incomplete. These notifications are not totally accurate. Here is the process we use in Guidance:
- when a transcript and counselor’s form is requeste, we look first at the deadline for the application. If, for example, the deadline is November 1, we put other requests with later deadlines aside and complete the November 1 forms.
- we have so many to do, that some will be mailed *ON* November 1.
- from the time that we mail the materials until the college receives them is a few days; from the time that the college receives the materials until they are posted as received on your screen, could be up to 2 weeks.
So, you can see that if you check your screen on November 1 - you’ll probably be upset. But please remember - THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THAT YOUR APPLICATION WAS RECEIVED BY THE DEADLINE. If it was, then you are ON TIME, and whenever our materials are posted in OK as well.
If, however, you keep getting these notices well beyond the deadline, then please come it to see your counselor and if necessary, we will contact the college and send additional forms.
IMPORTANT - College application deadlines
We spend a lot of time on our part of each application. We want to make sure our part gets to the college before the deadline. If you are working on any college applications with a deadline of January 1 or any date that occurs during our winter break, you need to bring the forms and request the transcript before November 28 - that will assure that we have sufficient time to process it and get it there on time. REMEMBER - you are *not* the only student we are working with.
So, if you are applying to a college with a deadline of January 1, and you fail to request the transcript by November 28, our part might not get there in time.
Requesting a recommendation from a teacher
When you request a letter of recommendation from a teacher, you must give the teacher at least 2 weeks, and even more depending on the time of year, to complete it. When requesting it, download and complete this form and give it to the teacher.
Requesting a transcript
All colleges and scholarship to which you will apply will require, among other items, an official high school transcript. 98% of these transcripts must be sent by Stanton so that they are official. To request a copy of your transcript, go to the Transcript Request Page (this link is also listed in the frame to the right of this page), complete it, and click submit. Your transcript will then be prepared and sent as soon as possible.

Welcome to the Class of 2008
We will be using this page of the Stanton Web Site exclusively this year to provide all of the information you will need for a successful transition from Stanton to your college. Please check back to this site regularly so that you will not miss out on any opportunities. An easy way to be notified of any updates is through an RSS feed. This is fancy language that means that your web browser (either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox) will create a favorite category called “Feeds” and will keep track of each time we post something new to this site. Mozilla Thunderbird, an email managment program similiar to Outlook, has a category for RSS feeds and will automatically upload any new messages from this site. If you have any questions on setting up an RSS feed, please send an email to turbab@dreamsbeginhere.org
