FAFSA - the correct web site
There is only one correct site for the FAFSA - www.fafsa.ed.gov. The important thing to remember is that the web site URL ends in “gov” and not “com.” The other site is a commercial site that claims to do your FAFSA, but will charge you to do it.
The FFAA is the application for the Florida Bright Futures. This must be completed in order to get the Bright Futures. You do not, however, have to complete the FAFSA in order to get the Bright Futures. The FAFSA is to qualify your family to receive need-based financial aid.

Part-time Job Opportunity
My name is Chris Richard and I’m the Human Resources Manager at a company called Capital Recovery Service. We’re a major call-center in Jacksonville (off of Arlington Expressway) that specializes in Debt Collection, Medical Billing and Courtesy Calling for top-notch companies all across the country.
We are currently interested in employing some part-time help, to assist with a new project that we are beginning in the very near future. Specifically, we’re hoping that some of your students might be interested in working 3 or 4 hours in the evenings for this new Medical Billing project.
To give you a brief synopsis of what we’re looking for in a candidate and a bit about what we offer:
Environment: Professional Office (we employ about 100 individuals currently)
Job Duties: Printing out HCFA Claim forms and other administrative office work
Hours: Afternoon or Evening (about 3 or 4 hours a day, Monday through Friday – Depending on the individual student and what they can handle, we can be flexible regarding times of work and number of hours worked in a week)
Pay-Rate: $8.00/hour
Candidate: Should be willing to learn, have basic computer skills, and may or may not be interested in the Medical Billing field, or just be excited about gaining exposure to a Business Office environment.
Benefits: First and foremost, I think this job would be an outstanding item to put on a young person’s resume. Also, we have a comfortable, professional and safe work-setting here. Plus, $8.00/hour is not bad and we can work with a person’s school and extracurricular activity schedule.

Deadline Extension for UVA
From UVA Admissions:
Late last night [Jan 2] we experienced technical difficulties with our server which resulted in some students having problems submitting their on-line application by the January 2 deadline. In light of this event and the power outages in some areas of the country due to heavy snow, we have decided to extend our application deadline one week to January 9th. We hope this will give students additional time to complete their applications. The on-line application should be accessible this afternoon.
If your student has already submitted his/her application online successfully and he/she has received this email, it is because the student created multiple accounts. In this case, the student may ignore this email. Students who have any questions or difficulties can call the admission office at 434-982-3200 for assistance.
Bright Futures Application
Seniors– Reminder, the online application for the Bright Futures Scholarship is available at www.FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org It takes about 10 minutes to complete. Some common mistakes to avoid:
- Incorrect social security number
- Using a nickname instead of legal name
- Reversing numbers in DOB
- Incorrect date of graduation; ours is 05/30/2008
- Giving a GPA that is too low; enter at least a 2.75 as your unweighted GPA in order to have your transcript evaluated (GPA’s do not have to be exact, you may estimate) You can check your BF GPA through www.facts.org
- Not answering question 38 correctly; unless you are a convicted felon or have pled nolo contendere to a felony charge, you should answer NO.
Other reminders:
- If you list an email address, THAT is where your pin will be sent
- If you lose your PIN, you will have to contact Bright Futures at 1-888-827-2004, we can’t access it
- You should print a copy of your completed application
- After you click submit, you need to see SAVED RESULTS to know that your application has actually been submitted.
IMPORTANT!!!! You need to submit verification of your 75 community service hours to guidance by January 15 if you want to be eligible for the Academic Scholars Award on the 7th semester (initial) evaluation. You may submit hours after that date; however you won’t receive your academic scholars verification until July.
