Financial Aid Help - Beacon Program

A volunteer with the BEACON PROGRAM will be available in the guidance office next Wednesday, Feb. 27 and Thursday, Feb. 28 to assist parents of seniors and/or their students in completing the FAFSA (FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID).  BEACON volunteers have experience in financial aid and are very knowledgeable about the FAFSA.  Appointments can be scheduled through the guidance office.
Remember, all students applying for any type of financial aid must complete the FAFSA and should do so as soon as possible.

PURPOSE:
The purpose of the gift is to provide scholarship between the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women and University of North Florida. This scholarship is open to all applicants regardless of race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation.

Part 2: Please submit a response of 500 words or less to one of the following questions:

1) In a well-constructed essay of 500 words, define prosperity and describe what path you might take to reach the goal of prosperity. As part of this essay, include your explanation for why you believe so many individuals do not reach the goal of prosperity. The essay should reflect original thought and include specific information about your personal goals.

2) Prosperity is defined in part as economic well being. How would you respond to this definition? Would you agree or disagree? Would you add or change the definition? Does prosperity have a special meaning for you? In a well-constructed essay of 500 words, give your answer to these questions and have your answers reflect your personal philosophy on prosperity.

3) Since in our society, prosperity is something we all aspire to, outline what makes it certain that you are on the path to prosperity. In a well-constructed essay, write a profile of whom you are now and who you expect to be in the future. Explain the contributions you are making now and the contribution you are committed to making in the future. Please be specific as you sketch your current achievements and indicate how you believe they are an indicator of your future success. As a conclusion, write why someone should have faith in your future.

Selection Process
The Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women will disseminate information about this scholarship to prospective students and will collect applications . This group will submit a recommendation list of no more than five candidates from which Jacksonville University will select the recipient. Jacksonville University will review and determine the eligibility of the potential scholarship recipients, will select the candidate, and will provide the scholarship award.
